Blonde Hair Gone Wrong at MASTER CUTS

by Jessika
(charleston SC)

I went into the salon with medium brown hair with blonde highlights (it was previously dyed about 10 weeks prior) and I really wanted something different. The salon woman asked me when my last dye job was and I told her.

I then told her what I wanted and she made me sign a paper. It stated if I already had dye in my hair that the color I was looking for may not turn out exactly that color and the salon was not responsible for the color or the condition of hair. (I never had to sign something like that before)

I wanted blonde on top and dark underneath. The dark underneath looked beautiful but the blonde came out orange, yellow and a light blonde (almost white). She then said wow, look, you have three colors that look natural! I was like ummm. Orange and yellow don't look natural. She said in a few days the color would settle and I could come back in a few days to tone it down if I still didn't like it.

I asked her if she toned it down would it get rid of the orange. She said well, because you already had dye in your hair it will not. So I will be going back in a few days to tell her it looks like crap, and I want to go back darker to get rid of all the blonde, orange, and yellow. The thing that sucks is if she just would have told me it would look like crap, I would not be so upset, but she never said that. Then to tell me the three shades of blonde look natural..lol..

So the blonde in my hair is a little fried as well. Its left frizz and some breakage (from the bleach) so I'm thinking about asking her if I should deep condition it for about 2 weeks then come back to get the blonde fixed. I have a concert to go to in a few weeks where a million pics will be taken and I do not want to go looking like I'm ready for Halloween.

That's kind of a tricky situation Jessika. When you deep condition, you will be basically locking the color into your hair by closing your cuticles even more than they are now. I would let her try and tone down the orange color first, then do damage control afterward. Toners are a very low peroxide and may actually correct the orange, if she uses the right one. Most ash or beige toners will help clarify orange colors but there's no guarantee. It all depends on the bases of the colors used.

Before you go back to the salon though, I would try a couple of harsh shampoos on your hair to see if they'll help pull out the orange color. Try Prell or use dish soap. You might also try Shimmer Lights. Its a purple shampoo made for gray hair but it also works well on blonde hair.

Tell her you want to deep condition the frizz after she tones your hair and see if she'll offer you one for free! If not, use Henna and Placenta. It really works well and is dirt cheap to buy at Sally's Beauty Supply. I like the kind that has Olive Oil in it personally, because it also moisturizes your hair. Good luck and hope you have a blast at the concert!
