Bleeding Hair Colors on Blonde Hair
by Megan

I'm a hairstylist and cant find a good way to keep colors like reds and purples from bleeding onto blond highlights/chunks.
I like to wear different styles but my colors fade and bleed. Have any suggestions?

I must assume you are using the free hand method of adding red or purple highlights/lowlights to your hair? If you were using a cap to apply color, the colors wouldn't be bleeding. Is this correct?
If you're using the free hand method: Someone suggested to me recently to try applying conditioner to hair that you don't want colored. It acts as a block to hair colors, so you could condition the hair around where you want to apply red or purple colors and it
shouldn't bleed. (You could also try hair wax, which would help repel the color.)
I haven't tried this but it makes sense. It's certainly worth a try! Please let us know if it works or not.
(If your colors fade, use a 10 volume peroxide instead of a 20 volume peroxide and don't wash your hair, condition only.)
