LGLWSM Newsletter 095 - The Dark Act Was Defeated!
March 26, 2016

Wow, I can barely believe that it’s already the end of March. The entire month just flew by. Some important things happened this month – and I’ve been a very busy girl indeed! For one, the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) ACT did not pass the senate. The vote happened last week and was narrowly defeated by a vote of 49 – 48.

This dangerous bill was introduced to congress by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-Kan.) and BIG FOOD’s GMA (Grocery Manufacturers Association). It was named the ‘Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2014”, which is the biggest bunch of baloney I’ve ever heard.

(This is what our congress does best... they label bills the exact opposite of what they’re actually designed to do. This is all part of the plethora of lies the American people are fed. You think it’s something good by what it’s named when it’s actually a guise for something that's bad. Oh the irony!)

I have been fighting this bill with tooth and nails for a couple of years now - by signing petitions out the ying yang, talking to senators, making phone calls, and regularly sharing and participating in the Millions Against Monsanto group. If it weren’t for people who were willing to fight for our right to know what we’re eating,(and there are many), we wouldn’t have been able to stop the DARK ACT in congress. However, the fight isn’t over yet.

In the past few weeks 5 BIG FOOD companies (Con Agra, Campbells, Mars, Kelloggs, and General Mills) in the US have agreed to comply with the upcoming (July 1, 2016) mandatory GMO labeling law in Vermont. They have pledged to label their foods nationwide voluntarily - but there’s something fishy about the timing. I don’t trust these folks one bit. Since the DARK ACT can go up for a revote at any time, I wonder if they’re purposely acting now because something more sinister is around the corner. After all BIG FOOD’s spent millions trying to defeat GMO labeling laws in the US. What sneaky acts are they up to now?

As the OCA (Organic Consumers Association) said this week:

“Or is there something more to these recent announcements than just the need to comply with Vermont’s law? As in, a strategy to lull consumers into complacency, while at the same time forcing Congress to give food companies what they’ve wanted all along—a free pass on mandatory labeling?”

Only time will tell but for now, it’s a huge victory and we should celebrate!

Of course, in December last year, congress voted to get rid of ‘country of origin’ labels on the meats you buy at market. Now, no one will really know where it originates. The safest route is to go vegan, buy meat locally from a butcher you know, or buy organic. These clowns in Washington want to keep us guessing while they’re living large off lobbyist monies.

I also wanted to mention that Americans should be boycotting Tyson Brand chicken! They are up to something underhanded as well. If you’d like to find out what’s going on, I suggest you read this article over the long weekend. It gives you the complete low down so you can understand what’s happening.

In other news, I finally received word that my new site banner was ready and got a preview... It’s been in the works since December. While it was a long wait, the banner’s very cool! I have asked my graphic designer for a few tweaks and it’ll be ready very soon so stay tuned! It is super exciting to update the look on this site. In addition, I've decided to build a horizontal navigation bar very soon, which will save you a ton of time.

I am also planning a Facebook event where you’ll be privy to FREE advice for any hair problems you might be having. I’m still working on the details and will let you know some specifics soon. Please follow my FB posts and get the latest health news and information, recipes to make at home, petitions to sign, environmental issues, and lots more.

I want to wish everyone who celebrates Easter this weekend, Happy Easter! The sun is shining, the temps are rising, and the birds are singing! It's time to smile!
