Taking care of your precious skin everyday can sometimes be a challenge and an inconvenience, especially if you have a hectic schedule. Life can certainly get in the way! The fact is however, that it doesn’t take a lot of extra time to anti age your skin. In fact, as you age, you should really take a few minutes throughout the day to protect and revitalize your skin.
Plump it Up - Everyday your skin needs moisture! If you don't do anything else, the one thing you must do is to use a daily moisturizing facial lotion. (Use a body lotion too!) They really help to minimize wrinkles by plumping the skin. Use them religiously and your skin will age more gracefully! CeraVe is one of the best (and least expensive) facial lotions that contains ceramides, which moisturize and soften skin.
Protect Your Face – We’ve all heard it time and time again but are you doing it? Your face shows the signs of aging much faster than anywhere else because the skin on your face is thinner than the rest of your body! If you don’t protect it, who will?
Wear a hat or use a broad-spectrum facial sunscreen on sun-filled outings especially. Some sun is really good for you cause it boosts Vitamin D production but too much of a good thing will age your skin.
Curb Stress – High levels of stress can cause an overproduction of many hormones in your body. This can lead to acne outbreaks or aggravate conditions like psoriasis. Take a few minutes each day to undo some of the stress in your life. Take a brisk walk after lunch or dinner, apply a 10 minute facial mask, or learn a simple meditation. Another good idea is to turn off your cell phone after dinner. When you're trying to relieve stress, every little bit helps!
Nighttime is the Right Time – Before you go to sleep each night, develop a skin care regimen. Keep your beauty essentials beside your bed for easier access and to help you remember to use them. A lip balm will keep your lips soft and plump, a night cream erases wrinkles, a deep moisturizing cream soothes cracked heels, and avacado oil softens cuticles.
Soothe Your Eyes – Your eyes are certainly one of the most important parts of your face. When they get irritated, rubbing them simply won’t help and adds to wrinkle formation. To soothe your eyes after a long day of work, keep a bag of frozen peas in the freezer. Take ten minutes, lay down on your bed, and apply the peas over your eyes. Cold reduces inflammation and swelling and calms the stress of the day away!
Take Five – Take at least five minutes a day to work out. Do five minutes of leg lifts, yoga poses like the downward dog, lifting weights, cycling, or using the elliptical trainer but limit high impact cardio. The repeated jarring can weaken collagen and lead to sagging skin. If you sing while you work out, it also helps boost the oxygen supply to your skin.
Sweet Stuff – Glycation, the break down of sugars in your body, damages collagen, which keeps skin smooth and firm. Stick to low glycemic carbohydrates like whole grains. The sugars that are formed by low glycemic carbs are released slowly into your body, which helps limit the loss of collagen.
Cut Back on Salt – Diet sodas contain anywhere from 25 – 50 mg. of sodium per can! If you’re drinking more than one soda a day, (or using extra salt on your foods), you can develop puffy eyes.
Drinking water is a much healthier and better solution. Your body needs ample supplies of water throughout the day. Water doesn’t contain sodium and helps plump your skin from the inside out!
Black and Green Solutions – Drinking black or green tea throughout the day is a great way to prevent skin cancer and the breakdown of collagen. Both black and green tea contain protective compounds like EGCG and theaflavins. The green tea you buy in a bottle won’t give you ample supplies though. They’re mainly sugar water. Instead, make your own at home, which is a more economical solution anyway!

On a Happier Note
Losing George was one of the hardest things I've ever been through! Thank you to everyone who wrote me a personal note! I couldn't stop crying for George (night times were the hardest!) and I was getting really depressed. I knew I had to take action.
Enter the new kitten.
Reluctantly, I went to the Humane Society and just looked at first but then my heart gave in. I ended up adopting a sweet little boy that stole my heart. Little by little, day by day, the pain in my heart stopped hurting as much. I would like to introduce you to my new kitten, Mr. Doodle. No one could ever replace my George and I still get melancholy when I think about him, but Mr. Doodle has helped me smile again. Thanks Mr. Doodle!
