LGLWSM Newsletter 037 - Hair Color Glazes - A Secret Weapon Often Overlooked!
August 31, 2010

When was the last time you used a semi permanent hair color? Hair color glazes are an often overlooked hair product that act like a semi permanent color but do more!

I would never have known about them if I hadn’t worked in a salon for so many years. When I first discovered them, my first impression was definitely wow! They are so quick and easy to use but really give your hair a boost! If you like them, you’ll use them for life!

All semi permanent hair colors work about the same way. They simply add a coating of hair color to your hair that lasts about 30 days. They work well but you always have to add color if you want to use them. That’s what’s so great about hair color glazes. They are also available in a clear formula. These are great when you don’t want to add color but you do want to protect your hair.

You can use glazes two ways; wet or dry.

Wet method: After you shampoo and condition, add glaze to wet hair and allow it time to process. (Read manufacturer instructions.) Rinse thoroughly.

Dry method: (Which I prefer!) Apply glaze to dry, unwashed hair. Use ample product to cover your hair from root to tip. Pile hair loosely on top of your head. Allow it to process at least 20 minutes. Shampoo and condition as usual.

Benefits of Hair Color Glazes

  • Protects your hair from environmental damage.

  • ‘Fills in’ weak areas along your hair strands.

  • Gives your hair lots of shine.

  • Adds a smooth, improved texture to hair.

  • Adds volume to your hair. (Like all colors do!)

  • Never damages your hair.

  • Gives a silky luster to hair.

  • Most glazes are ammonia free and peroxide free.

Glazes are so versatile, which makes them perfect for both men and women. The clear formula won’t change the color of your hair but will give it lots of shine! Results intensify over time as you use the product. Also, the more you use them, the longer results last.

Glazes are relatively inexpensive to buy. Depending on the length of your hair and the size of the bottle, you can get two or more treatments out of one bottle. Therefore, they are affordable, even in this economy.

There are many glazes on the market. Three of the best glazes are:

  • John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze
  • Redkin Shades EQ
  • Sebastian Cellophanes

If your hair is damaged, be sure to deep condition your hair before using any hair colors. Porous hair is very thirsty, so even semi permanent hair colors can grab onto your hair if it’s overly porous. Hair colors are hard to get rid of once they’ve absorbed into the hair cortex. Take care of the damage first, before you consider coloring your hair.

Hair color glazes are a hidden marvel if you've never used one! Once you try the product, you'll wonder why you didn't know about them before!

    On a Sad Note

Trouble seems to be following me around this summer. A few weeks ago, I let out my most favorite cat late at night. He wanted out and I let him go. I never saw him again.

I live in a national forest close to the coast. My George cat had been out at night a thousand times before and always, always, was at the back door the next morning. Not this time. George is gone and my heart is broken. (I think a fox must've gotten him, although fox attacks on cats are rare. I think George was just in the wrong place at the wrong time... I've looked everywhere for him but found no trace.)

My George was born in a basket in my bedroom on or about May 30, 2003. His momma, Kitten Litten, was very young at that time and I didn't think she could get pregnant so young. (Little did I know!) I had her 'fixed' afterward and intended to give away all the kittens. (I already had 4 other cats!) I was going to give George away, but the people who came to get him wouldn't take him cause they saw how much I loved him. From that time on, George and I were like peas and carrots!

I would never have intentionally put my kitty in harms way. Hindsight is always so much clearer than foresight. I wished I had never opened that door for him but I did.

Please say a prayer for me and George. After being so sick this summer, this is the worst thing that could have happened. I have kicked myself a thousand times since but nothing takes the pain away. Its going to take a long time for my heart to heal from this tremendous loss. George was my joy, my heart, and my life!
